Woodmansterne started in 1953 and for 35 years was the leading publisher and manufacturer of colour slides in the world.

In 1987 the firm diversified into fine art Christmas cards. It is still a family business (production director Seth Woodmansterne is pictured) and today is a multi-award winning publisher, manufacturer and distributor of greetings cards, stationery and advent calendars.

Where are you based?

Woodmansterne's design studio and production facility is near Watford, on the site of John Dickinson’s former Croxley Mills (inventor of both cardboard and the gummed envelope). Our distribution centre is in Milton Keynes

How many staff do you have?

18 in our production team, a total of 90 people across our two sites

What does your firm do? 

We are a traditional B2 litho house. Over the years, we have brought in finishing machines and expertise, producing: hot foiling, embossing, die-cutting, encapsulated glitter, and spot-UV

Which geographic areas do you serve?

We cover the UK, and export to other countries

Which markets do you serve?

Our products are sold to independent gift shops and greetings card outlets, garden centres and multiple chains including grocery and department stores

What’s your USP?

We are unique in having the ability to design, produce and distribute greetings cards, seeing it through from conception to delivery, for ourselves and retailers. We pride ourselves on delivering quality through and through

What’s been your proudest achievement in the past few years?

From a production point of view, it is undoubtedly securing back-to-back wins in the Social Stationery Printer of the Year category at the PrintWeek Awards

What’s your team’s favourite biscuit?

In the production office, it’s a toss-up between ginger snaps and choc-chip cookies. On the shopfloor, it’s Bourbons
