York Mailing plans Pindar redundancies

Local reports that York Mailing is planning to make 90 positions redundant at Pindar's Scarborough operation have not been officially confirmed, although some redundancies are being planned.

The firm acquired the Scarborough web offset facility and bindery out of administration on 26 July, through a new subsidiary business specifically set up for the purpose. The Scarborough operations had 255 employees.

However, York Mailing chief executive Chris Ingram told PrintWeek: "As a legal requirement we have to inform the government and this is in a banded form which is between 20 and 100.

"This does not mean we will be making 100 redundant, but it will be more than 20. This is an ongoing process and will take a couple of months to roll out."

Ingram added: "Unfortunately we are having to making some redundancies as matter of economic necessity."

Former Pindar chairman Andrew Pindar was among the Pindar employees who transferred over with the sale of the Scarborough web offset facility.
