UPM renews partnership with Norfolk waste group

UPM and Norfolk Environmental Waste Services (News) have announced a two-year deal, which will strengthen the paper manufacturer's presence in the recovered paper procurement sector.

The move follows on from a five-year partnership between the two companies and will provide UPM with around 34,000 tonnes of post-consumer paper each year.

Robbie Warden, regional sourcing manager UPM, said: "News has consistently maintained its quality standards, enabling us to efficiently recycle the material at our newsprint mill UPM Shotton in North Wales."

At the mill, around 650,000 tonnes of recovered paper is consumed to manufacture 100% recycled newsprint for the UK and international publishing sectors.

A £52m investment in a renewable heat and power plant biomass facility at the plant has enabled the site to reduce its CO2 emissions by 100,000 tonnes annually.

It provides 40% of the electricity requirements and 100% of the process heat required for the papermaking process.

UPM is a forest products group that produces printing papers, label materials and wood products.

News receives recyclable, general household and green garden waste from local authority collections.
