Tri Media director buys publisher back out of administration

Local newspaper publisher Tri Media Newspapers has been bought back by its director after falling into administration.

David Tann and Matthew Waghorn of Wilkins Kennedy were appointed as administrators to the company on 25 October.

Tri Media Newspapers, trading as TriMedia Group, publishes newspapers such as the Basingstoke Observer and the Oxfordshire Guardian across Hampshire and Oxfordshire. Its portfolio is printed by Cambridge's Iliffe Print, which is understood to be a recent change from Harmsworth Printing.

Tri Media Newspapers managing director and chief executive Howard Taylor set up Taylor Newspapers on 30 October, the same day that the new company bought Tri Media Newspapers as a going concern.

The new company, which Tann said was set up for the purpose of continuing to operate the Tri Media Newspapers business, took on all assets and staff.

In January this year, Tri Media Publishing, an associated company of Newspapers also run by Howard Taylor, was put into liquidation following a voluntary arrangement by the company.
