Tradeprint.co.uk targets W2P growth with 3.5m Heidelberg spend

Tradeprint.co.uk has targeted growth and reduced turnaround times after investing 3.5m with Heidelberg.

The online trade print business has committed to the investment programme, which includes a 10-colour Speedmaster XL 106 long perfector, to increase its capacity to gang multiple jobs onto a single sheet.

Tradeprint, which is based in Dundee, will take delivery of the new Speedmaster next February, following on from the installation of a Suprasetter S105, Stahlfolder KH82, RA4 jogger and Prinect Color Toolbox colour calibration software.

Its XL 106 will arrive specified with Heidelberg's the Inpress Control spectral measurement device and Autoplate XL synchronised plate changing for rapid turnarounds.

Tradeprint.co.uk managing director Rod Scrimgeour said the new press will enable the business to improve its current next-day printing service while further guaranteeing its 48-hour turnaround times.

"Web to print work is about low touch and specialisation bringing efficiencies to compete in today’s market," said Scrimgeour.

The company's Suprasetter, its second model, will output plates for a Speedmaster SM 52-4+L Anicolor, SRA1 format Ryobi and for the B1 XL 106 when it arrives next year. Tradeprint also operates an HP Indigo 5500 digital colour press.

He added: "Our average run length is around 2,000. Having this B1 long perfector with Inpress Control and Autoplate XL means we can makeready in less than five minutes.

"Inpress Control is specified to reduce makeready times and give us the confidence that we are always running to top quality, leaving the operator free and able to prepare for the next job."

Tradeprint focuses its production through its proprietary online basketing system that enables clients to batch jobs in a single transaction, allowing them to send each unbranded boxed product to a different end user.

According to Scrimgeour, the company's trade emphasis has developed in recent years with an increasing number of smaller printers acting as resellers and sourcing their print elsewhere.
He said: "We believe there will be a new structure to the printing market in future.

"This investment will set us apart from our competition and, together with our fast turnarounds and professional and reliable service, allow us to continue to expand our customer base."
