Sioen chooses Fespa for launch of digital ink business

Fespa 2010 Munich is the launch pad for a new inkjet firm, which has developed an ink technology that it claims surpasses the performance of standard products.

Sioen Digital (Hall B2 stand 580) has developed a proprietary pigment dispersion technology and invested in state-of-the-art milling to produce inks that are stable and consistent.

"Historically the ink industry has divided into two camps, the chemical giants, and the garage operations," said business development manager Steve Knight. "Sieon is in between the two. Rather than tweaking existing inks for each application we've gone back to the drawing board and got the base formulation solid."

At the show the firm will be offering mild, mid and hard solvent inks for Roland, Mimaki, Mutoh and Seiko printers and HP Scitex, Vutek and Gandi grand format machines. It is also working on a range of UV-cured inks.

Inks will be produced in Europe, form materials sourced within the continent, and will be REACH compliant, which Knight said was set to become increasingly important when the legislation comes into force.

At Fespa the firm will be talking to end users and to potential dealers and distributors. Sioen Digital is part of Belgian textile and fine chemical firm Sioen Industries' chemical division.

Sioen bought aftermarket ink company Fillink in 2007, to which it was a supplier. Knight said that the Sioen Digital inks were a new development, adding the Fillink brand and channel would remain, although in the future products using the new technology could be introduced under the Fillink label.
