SCA Packaging Pollokshaws to cut nearly 50 staff

SCA Packaging has entered into a 90-day consultation with around 50 members of staff at its Pollokshaws supply chain facility in Glasgow, according to Unite.

The figure represents nearly half of the total headcount at the Riverford Road site, which the union said had suffered a downturn in work since the Japanese tsunami.

SCA Packaging Pollokshaws specialises in the production of display and cartons. It is part of Belgium-headquarted SCA Packaging, which employs 15,218 people at 172 facilities in 25 European countries.

Norman King, regional officer at Unite, told PrintWeek: "Staff are on a 90-day consultation that will run till October. We will continue to engage in talks with the company in a bid to come to a satisfactory conclusion."
