PrintWeek Awards: Fine Art Printer of the Year - Pureprint Group

Adding this accolade to last years roster of awards, one of which was Fine Art Printer of the Year, Pureprint Group impressed the judges this year with its execution of a book of the work of landscape sculptor Tani Kovats.

The Sussex-based company beautifully rendered Kovat’s distinctive sculptures by scanning 60-plus transparencies on its Linotype Hell drum scanner, colour correcting the scans to remove any casts and producing profiled Matchprints to be retouched and reproofed. The book was printed on a six-colour Heidelberg XL 105 in combinations of CMYK, two special blacks and a cool grey, with the cases quarter bound with printed paper over 2mm greyboards and Colorado Chobi cloth over spine. Also helping to secure this title for a second year running was the group’s execution of a book about Austrian painter Egon Schiele, praised by the judges for its "great tonal representation".

Commended - St Ives Westerham Press

Also performing strongly in this category for a second year running was St Ives Westerham Press. This year, St Ives Westerham and artist Bridget Riley proved a stellar partnership, with a booklet produced for The National Gallery to accompany an exhibition of Riley’s work. Another title scoring highly was a handbound archive collection of artist David Shepherd’s work, printed in a limited edition of 1,000 copies.
