PrintWeek Awards: Direct Mail Printer of the Year - Geoff Neal Litho

There seems to be no stopping Middlesex-based printer Geoff Neal Litho when it comes to reigning supreme in the Direct Mail Printer of the Year category.

Helping the company reclaim its crown this year was a pop-up fairytale book for Sky which went from design to being printed, bound, hand enclosed and mailed in less than four weeks – no mean feat when you consider that each of the 150,000 books took five minutes to make up by hand and that this type of book usually takes several months to produce. Also ensuring Geoff Neal achieved its fifth win in this category was another ‘wow factor’ project for Sky – a silver-foiled ‘Mirror, mirror on the wall’ fairytale booklet – a ‘Don’t be square’ brochure for Hyundai, made up of blind-embossed and spot gloss-varnished squares, and a highly personalised yet cost-viable pack for Nissan’s Micra and GT-R customers.

Commended – Howitt (a Lateral Group company)

Among the Howitt projects that caught the judges’ eyes was a BSkyB Good News campaign which sought to entice Sky customers to upgrade their package with eye-catching design. The Nottingham-based company impressed the judges with its innovative use of a bespoke-printed C5 outer envelope featuring glassine windows to showcase from the outside the pack’s nine individual die-cut inserts, each representing a specific Sky service.
