The GPI contract, which started in July, covers all five of the company’s UK sites.
J&G, which has sites in Blandford and Salford, had already been responsible for some waste management at three of GPI’s sites and was awarded the contract for all waste management at these as well as the other two sites following a tender process.
“We used to service Benson Box and when GPI took over we were servicing the two sites in the North East [Newcastle and Gateshead] and Leicester and since then Bristol and Leeds have come on board too,” said J&G sales manager Ian Paulley.
“It was only mainly their chemicals we were managing at the time but we’ve got their litho plate business since then as well.
“We supply them with everything they need for their ISO requirements, we just offer that one-stop shop where we turn up and take everything away from them.”
GPI procurement manager Alex Bretherton added: “I've been particularly impressed at the way J&G has been able to identify numerous ways in which GPI can save time, money and effort from the way our hazardous waste is collected; this is a genuine source of added value for us as a company.”
The YM Group contract, which also began in July, currently covers three of the group’s sites; York Mailing, Pindar in Scarborough and YM Chantry, formerly Polestar Chantry, in Wakefield.
“We used to deal with YM Group before and kept in touch. We only lost them because they did a deal on their consumables with a supplier who used to deal with their own waste, but now no longer do that,” said Pauley.
“They like us because we turn up when we say we’re going to turn up; it’s about the level of service.”
J&G manages the waste collection and disposal needs of more than 2,000 UK printers and newspaper groups. 95% of waste collected is currently recycled and the company said it is committed to increasing that.
J&G was acquired by Cleansing Service Group (CSG) in 2008 and is now the specialist printing waste management division of the group. CSG then acquired Saxon Recycling in 2013, which is headed up by J&G’s management.
Last year the firm was awarded a three-year hazardous waste management contract by Communisis and moved into the consumables supply market for the first time when it launched its own range of specialist pressroom consumables.
