Speaking as organiser IIR unveiled its visitor promotion plans, along with a host of recession-busting savings to help exhibitors cut costs, Clarke said: "Could the timing of Ipex 2010 be any better?

"The innovations seen at Drupa will have become a reality, but more important is the economic cycle. The downturn actually began two years ago, and it’s likely we will see recovery by next May."

The last Ipex in 2006 was held in April, but by pushing the 2010 show back into May, the organisers hope the timeframe will work better for both exhibitors and visitors by avoiding the Easter holiday.

"While nobody knows what the economic climate will be next year, there are signs of recovery in some areas and we hope to see the investment drought relax as we move towards Ipex," said event director Trevor Crawford.

Crawford said that while some exhibitors had downsized their stand space, most of the industry’s major suppliers had committed to being at the event and the exhibition overall was in "comparatively good shape".

He added: "It’s clear that the credit crunch is affecting the whole industry, so we’ve been working closely with the venue, as well as our key suppliers and partners, to come up with a choice of discounted options that will provide real savings and greater efficiencies for our exhibitors.

"A strong Ipex helps to reignite the industry and is good for every one of us."

Ipex 2010 is due to be held on 18-25 May, 2010, at the Birmingham NEC.
