Impact Mail & Print becomes FSC and PEFC certified

Commercial printer Impact Mail & Print has become FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody certified in response to increasing customer demand for environmentally friendly envelopes and paper.

Co-director Nigel Sherwood said it was important for the company to react to changing trends in demand for responsibly sourced papers.

He said: "We need to support our B2 sheet-fed printing and envelope manufacturing facilities, with a particular view towards promoting environmentally friendly mailing services.

"Certification in FSC and PEFC now enables us to meet those customer expectations."

General manager Michael Ralph added the company also became certified in order to win the additional business and enhance the range of products available through print and manufacturing.

He said: "It means that we can now meet those requirements and can tender for further opportunities."

While certifications are not yet a pre-requisite, Ralph claimed there is a growing awareness and with customers asking for certification, getting them is beneficial.

The £3m turnover company has 30 staff and serves the direct mail industry, trade printers, and the public and financial sectors. The Telford-based site also has facilities for envelope manufacturing.

It is looking at getting ISO 14001 next year, and will reduce chemistry with the recent installation of a CTP system and processor.

The company is now able to offer FSC- and PEFC-certified envelopes in volumes ranging from single boxes through to quantities in excess of 1m.
