Former Graphoprint staff form web printer

Former Graphoprint staff have formed a commercial web print company - to PrintWeek's knowledge the first web start-up in at least 10 years.

Grapho Media is an independent commercial web printer that will concentrate on commercial, press finished and sheeted work.

It is based in Deeside Industrial estate, North Wales, the same estate that Graphoprint was based at.

The business is made up mainly of former Graphoprint staff with Neil McRae as managing director, Vic Rollinson as sales and marketing director, Harry Gould as production director and Andy Edwards as manufacturing director.

Rollinson said: "Following my resignation from The Website Leeds, I have joined a new start business.

"I believe this could be the first new start web company for over 10 years."

The 14-staffed company has received backing from the Welsh Assembly, and hopes to take on a further 24 staff from the local area within a year.

Production will start in June on the company's first press, a secondhand 8-unit System 38 Komori with sheeter and twin folders.

Rollinson added: "I believe there is still some consolidation to happen with the larger groups.

"Our intention is to rely on the considerable experience of the directors and staff and create a very lean business that is totally customer focussed, bringing speed to the market for our customers."

North Wales-based web offset printer Graphoprint went into administration in June 2007, with all but 12 of its 192 staff made redundant.

In August 2008, a number of the company's former staff were taken on at The Website (Leeds).
