Former Fespa directors launch EcoPrint trade show

Former Fespa Event directors Frazer Chesterman and Marcus Timson have unveiled their new EcoPrint print industry event that will "fill the gap" in the market for a show that focuses on business efficiency and sustainability issues for print service providers.

EcoPrint Live is the first event to emerge since Chesterman and Timson took charge of FM Brooks, part of the Mack Brooks Exhibitions Group earlier this year.

The show, which will take place in Berlin from 26-27 September 2012, will place an emphasis on sustainability through "efficiency, the reduction of waste, implementation of effective process management and a committed, dynamic sales and marketing campaign".

The event is dedicated to print production within retail, interiors, POP and packaging sectors and not the wide-format markets traditionally targeted by the Fespa shows.

According to Chesterman, the print market is catered for by larger international trade shows and smaller summit events but not a show that focuses on the practical, knowledge-driven approach he expects EcoPrint Live to adopt.

He said: "We conducted some significant research and we feel that wide-format print is really at the top of its market now. We therefore think that EcoPrint Live will offer something new designed for a different part of the industry.

"Print companies are exposed to the issue of sustainability from a large number of sources such as manufacturers, brand owners, suppliers and their clients. Many are unsure as there hasn’t, until now, been a focused forum covering the area."

Chesterman added that many brands were in the process of aligning their supply chains to meet their carbon neutral pledges in time for 2015 and 2020, something suppliers would be expected to follow.

The organisers said the show will also aim to dispel the industry's "greatest misconception" that implementing environmental initiatives are not commercially viable.

"EcoPrint’s unique focus will assist the industry in dispelling these misconceptions and myths, both in the eyes of printers, but also critically, in the eyes of the brands and the consumer," said Chesterman.

The format of the event will develop in the coming months with the inaugural steering group committee meeting, which involved 50 industry figures and manufacturers, taking place in Dusseldorf yesterday (12 October).

"Berlin has the feel of a summit city and somewhere that has a pull. We are on the cusp of something here and people are interested," added Chesterman.
