Hewitt, who retired in 1993, spent many years working for Emap within its newspaper division in Bury St Edmunds.
In his time as production director within consumer magazines at Emap, he is credited for building the central print and paper purchasing department during its formation as a magazine publisher
Hewitt was also responsible for expanding the reach of the purchasing department, bringing together the production requirements of a decentralised publisher as it transformed into a major international publisher.
His funeral took place on 22 September at Peterborough Crematorium. The family asks for any donations to be made to "Royal British Legion (Bourne) and Parkinson's U K (Bourne)" c/o R J Scholes, Wherry's Lane, Bourne, Lincs. PE10 9HQ.
