Chesapeake buys fifth Lithrone in two years at Drupa

Chesapeake has continued its investment programme into its pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging division after signing for a six-colour Komori Lithrone GX 40.

The GX 640 Carton plus coater, which is currently being demonstrated on Komori's stand at Drupa, will be installed at Chesapeake's Leicester facility once the Düsseldorf show closes.

The press, which is a full carton specification machine, will be the fifth Lithrone installed in the UK by Chesapeake in the past two years, following four six-colour Lithrone S40s installed at the group's Nottingham, Leicester and Belfast facilities.

Jon Drennan, operations director of Chesapeake Leicester, said the company had no hesitation in continuing its investment programme with the press manufacturer.

He added: "Having seen the press put through its paces during Komori’s demonstrations at the show, we were immediately impressed with the increased automation and environmental related improvements."

On the automation side, Drennan lauded Komori's inline inspection system and automatic register functions. "The twin-camera inline quality inspection system as well as the spot measurement and automatic register functions of Komori’s new spectral density control will enable us to maintain even greater product consistency for our customers," he added.

Last year, Chesapeake Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging doubled its patient information leaflet printing capacity by investing in a two-colour KBA Rapida 106 B1 press.
