The Lemon Press in Redditch, Worcester, and Leicester-based Spectrum Printing, are both installing the kit, which will be officially launched at Drupa.
The Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 runs up to 18,000 sheets per hour and checks colour and registration constantly via a spectrophotometric measurement system known as Prinect Inpress Control. This allows the press to control itself throughout the press run, checking every sheet on the fly, capturing any deviations in process and special colours.
The Lemon Press, which specialises in high-quality output for design and advertising agencies, expects to have its kit installed by July 2008. It is part of a £1.25m investment in new equipment, which includes a TH/KH 66.6 Stahl folding machine.
Spectrum Printing has taken a five-colour with coater. It replaces a three-year-old CD 74 and another press, a Speedmaster SM 74-6, has been added as a direct replacement for a seven-year-old version of that machine.
Managing director of Spectrum Paul Clifton said: "We were surprised when we were told that, rather than getting another CD 74 we could have the XL 75. It is great for us to get the new press because the residual value will be higher and as an early adopter we are being given full support, including upgrades produced at Drupa or shortly after."
Spectrum produces a wide range of work including brochures, folders, leaflets and reports.
