Arjowiggins division announces carbonless paper price rises

Arjowiggins' Carbonless Papers has announced a price increase of 8% for its Idem Superior carbonless reels and sheets. The rise is with effect from deliveries on 1 March 2009 onwards.

A spokesman for Arjowiggins said the reasons behind the increase include foreign exchange rates and costs.

"If you take the exchange rate when sterling started to move away from the euro in September 2007 and now, there is a very large change," he said.

"We tried to reduce our costs as much as possible but you can't seriously compensate such a large variation in exchange rates."

The announcement comes as the paper manufacturer revealed it will close its historic Dartford mill with the loss of 125 jobs, following a 90-day staff consultation.

Earlier this year, Arjowiggins announced a price increase of up to 10% on its coated papers in reels and sheets, in order to "restore its profitability".
