Vivid adds metallic capabilities to Matrix family

Vivid Laminating Systems has launched the Matrix Metallic MX-370MP system, which adds digital foil and spot-UV effects to the capabilities of its established Matrix laminator family.

The new machine features pneumatic rollers with thermostatic temperature control in keeping with its stablemates, but it has been optimised to work better with non-smooth papers. It was unveiled at Sign & Digital UK 2019, which took place at the Birmingham NEC last week

The new capability improves the viability of producing higher-end, short-run applications, such as wedding stationery and invitations, digitally.

Sales manager Richard Marlow said: “Customers wanted to foil on substrates like uncoated stocks, which required us to change the composition of the matrix roller.

“Unsmooth, quality papers are by their nature hard to foil and would traditionally need a block made in order to do so, but this opens up high-end applications to a market that requires short-run, on-demand production.

“People tend not to believe its speed and precision, but the clients we have shown it to already have been impressed. Five or six machines are already signed off.”

The MX-370MP has a maximum mechanical speed of 10m/min and can carry paper thickness from 135gsm at widths up to 420mm. It is the eighth machine to be introduced into Ashby-de-la-Zouch-based Vivid’s family of Matrix foiling, laminating and spot-UV systems.
