Screen has launched a retrofittable upgrade package for its Truepress Jet 520HD inkjet printer series.

The new SC+ Chroma Package offering includes upgraded press hardware and software, a wider colour gamut, and SC+ ink, an enhanced version of the series’ current SC ink. The Chroma Package will be available for new presses and as an upgrade for existing Truepress Jet 520HD owners.

The first version of the SC ink, which was launched at Drupa in 2016, was designed to be printed on both standard coated and uncoated papers without the need for pre-treatment or primer.

While Screen said this met the need for a quick-drying, fast-absorbing ink without the added costs of premium grade papers or treatments, demand for the ink’s capabilities have grown due to the ongoing challenges of paper shortages.

With an expanded gamut and improvements in hue purity, Screen said SC+ ink will allow users to match colours “in the widest possible range and at a greater accuracy than SC ink”.

The Chroma Package includes the SC+ ink, tools, and training.

Screen Europe marketing director Taishi Motoshige told Printweek: “The Chroma Package combines Screen’s newly developed SC+ inks with new optimised waveforms resulting in even more vibrant colours and an expanded colour gamut.

“Printers and end-users will love the print results from the SC+ inks. As no primer or other pre-treatment is needed, coated and uncoated offset stocks will keep their natural look and feel. With this package we are offering an interesting upgrade path to our existing Truepress Jet 520HD users.”

The Chroma Package is available immediately with new presses while Screen has started the process of scheduling field upgrades for existing customers who choose to convert.

Motoshige said the price of the new machines will be similar to the current model, while the cost of the upgrade for existing users “depends on the serial number”.
