New year predictions: Duarte Goncalves, DXG Media

DXG Media managing director Duarte Goncalves is excited by the prospects for an evolving printing industry in 2016.

What’s at the top of your Christmas wish list this year?

Good health for my friends and family in 2016.

What trend do you think 2015 will be remembered for?

The year confidence came back into our industry after six years of recession and negativity.

What do you think will represent the single biggest opportunity for printers in 2016 and why?

Further developments in automation will allow us to offer our clients improved print solutions as more of what we do moves online.

What do you think will represent the single biggest threat for printers in 2016 and why?

Standing still and resting on our laurels just because it has worked in the past.

What’s the one thing that the industry should do more of, or do better, in 2016?

Promote printing services and attract young folk back into this great industry.

What was your biggest disappointment in 2015?

Not keeping to my New Year’s resolution.

What was your highlight of 2015?

Receiving an email from a top football Premiership chairman, complimenting and thanking us for “ the best piece of print” he’s ever had.

What are your hopes for 2016?

I would love a bit more growth in DXG Media in 2016 but with 1% or 2% more profit on the bottom line.

What was the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Don’t chase turnover, chase profit and cashflow. So right!

What was the most important thing that you learnt in 2015?

That our industry isn’t in decline. It’s just evolving and that really excites me.

What if anything will you do differently in 2016?

Enjoy what I do a bit more, at times the pressure gets to me a bit too much! As my dad has said: “Life’s too short so enjoy”.

What the next big thing is going to be, after all at the last Drupa “Landa” was going to change the industry…

What was the best Christmas present you ever received?

When I was a kid my mum and dad got me a bright yellow Raleigh Chopper with gears too! I loved it.

Are you making any New Year's resolutions? If so, what?

It’s the usual one every year: exercise more.
