Police and the fire brigade are investigating the cause of a fire at a London print group.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning (18 July) in containers of waste paper and cardboard stored outside TFW Group’s premises in Woolwich, south east London.

TFW Group comprises TFW Print, TFW Digital, and TFW Design and operates from two units at the IO Centre industrial estate in Royal Arsenal.

London Fire Brigade said that six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the blaze at 2.45am, with the fire under control by 5.28am.

Fire crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Erith and Poplar fire stations attended the scene.

The brigade said that part of an end-of-range, two-storey industrial unit was damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “There was no one inside the property at the time of the fire.

“Smoke was seen coming from stacked metal cages directly outside the unit containing waste paper and card and the Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the blaze.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by LFB and the Metropolitan Police Service.

TFW had not commented at the time of writing.

The firm works for a wide range of clients in financial services, education, agencies, hospitality and the public sector. It also offers fulfilment and storage services.
