The circa £5m-turnover family business had been suffering problems caused by an ageing Polar guillotine.
Finishing manager Tony Humphrey said the company was initially planning to part-exchange for a newer Polar, but decided to run a demo on the Wohlenberg at UK agent Friedheim International.
After a successful demonstration, the kit was installed in late May at company’s Bury St Edmunds print production facility.
“We replaced the old Polar, which was about 30 years old and had gone past its sell-by date. The new machine is much the same [specification] as a Polar, but Polars are very, very expensive.
“We bought the 12-month-old ex-demo Wohlenberg from Friedheim for around £30,000, which was very good value. I'd looked at reconditioned Polars and they were still £50,000 to £60,000.”
Denny Bros runs digital, flexo, litho and label presses such as a Xeikon 3500 digital press and a number of Heidelberg litho machines.
The firm’s labelling products include its Fix-a-Form multi-page label that occupies the same space as a standard label while providing more space for instructional, legal, language or promotional information.
Denny Bros’ labels are used in a broad range of industries, including healthcare and pharmaceutical, FMCG, agrochemical, informational and promotional.
Humphrey said: “We have the new Wohlenberg 115 sited in our warehouse where it is being used to cut white sheets to size ready for going on our printing presses.
“Since its installation the cutter has been hard at work every day, and everything has been fine, right from the initial training of operators to its daily productivity.”
