Coveris has acquired speciality bags producer Initial Packaging, in line with its strategic growth targets.

The deal for the Widnes, Cheshire-based business, which was completed earlier this month, will enable the Austrian headquartered packaging giant to gain access to new markets and distribution channels, as well as expanding its product portfolio and manufacturing capability in the specialty packaging area.

Coveris said this market is experiencing “continuous and solid growth rates” globally, notably in e-commerce, hygiene, pharma and medical packaging.

Initial Packaging specialises in protective, tamper evident and customised packaging. Its products are used by a range of customers and markets to protect and securely transport goods worldwide, including security, logistics, mailing/courier and e-commerce.

“After a long and extensive search for an ideal partner, we are delighted to welcome Initial Packaging in the Coveris family,” said Coveris chief executive Jakob A. Mosser.

“Initial Packaging supports our growth strategy in high performance speciality bags. Alongside food and pet food we will realise further growth in the hygiene, pharma and medical segment. This product group is a perfect example of how plastics can show its superior performance in a convincing and sustainable way.”

Initial Packaging was established in 1983 and is overseen by managing director Robert Croft and finance director Lee Childs, who will remain in their current roles.
