Canon has launched a new flagship colour cutsheet toner press to replace the 100ppm imagePress C10000VP, with the first machines set to be installed in the UK later this month.

The imagePress C10010VP has the same headline speeds and 2,400dpi resolution as its 2015-launched predecessor, but it can handle a wider media range and features more automation to boost productivity.

Canon has been running virtual demos on the new machine from its Birmingham demo centre. It is available now with a number set to be installed in the coming weeks and months.

“The C10000VP was a very stable platform, but with the new machine we’re looking at even higher levels of productivity and reliability, there are quality enhancements too, lots of media updates,” said Wayne Barlow, Canon UK head of Graphics & Communications Business Group.

“We’re excited about the C10010VP because, like all of our machines, all of the service data from the machines in the field goes back to the factory and that’s where these things are developed.

“And taking orders through Covid lockdown is even better.”

The new range is rated for average monthly page volumes of 450,000 and consists of two models, the 90 A4 duplex pages per minute imagePress C9010VP and the 100ppm C10010VP.

It can be configured with Canon’s Prismasync iPR front-end or EFI’s Fiery FS400 Pro.

The machines can handle media weights from 60-400gsm, compared with the 70-350gsm of its predecessor, and can also process a wider range of synthetic stocks.

Automation features include ultrasonic multi-sheet feed detection, active front-to-back registration and inline spectrometric sensor for on-the-fly colour adjustments.

Due to the high number of enhancements, existing imagePress C10000VPs cannot be upgraded to field upgraded to C10010VP specs.

However, like the earlier machine it has a dual fixing unit to run a wide media range at top rated speed, with additional productivity features including a high-capacity stacker capable of holding two 3,000-sheet stacks for on-the-run loading.

Standard sheet format capabilities go up to 330x487mm, which it also comes with ability to handle long sheets up to 762mm duplex or 1,300m simplex. It can also be configured with Canon’s optional BDT VX 370 Feeder, which can automatically feed 5,000 762mm banner sheets.

According to Canon UK head of product marketing Joseph Courts, more than 15,000 machines from the imagePress family have been installed across EMEA in the past five years.

“The imagePress C10010VP series is a new milestone in the evolution of the digital colour production press, setting new standards in productivity, application diversity and quality,” he said.

Pricing is dependent on specification and configuration, but is understood to be broadly inline with the C10000VP.
