ASL Group acquires Smart Print Technology

Cambridge-headquartered managed office services provider ASL Group has acquired Smart Print Technology, a print equipment and consumables supplier based in Welwyn Garden City.

The eight-staff business, which has a turnover of just over £5m, was established in 2003 and specialises in production print devices. It will retain its name under the ASL Group banner, with the potential to be rebranded to ASL in the future depending on market conditions, ASL confirmed.

It is the latest in a series of acquisitions for the group after it bought ICA Digital and Geerings Digital in February and November 2018 respectively, going on to acquire Reprotec in July this year.

ASL is a 190-staff business with an annual turnover of over £28m and is a major reseller of digital and wide-format kit with manufacturers including Kodak, Xerox, HP, Mutoh, OKI and EFI on its books. Last month, Kodak appointed ASL Group as reseller for its NexPress digital printers.

ASL Group managing director Mark Garius said the addition of Smart Print would add significant value to the expertise of the business. He added: “In a growing market we are finding that more and more customers are asking for the availability of choice.

“As we strive to be the largest independent production print provider in the UK, this acquisition will provide our customers with a host of new benefits, strengthening our position as the go-to supplier.”

Smart Print director Richard Fyson said “We are delighted to join the ASL group and recognise that it will add further value to the business. ASL’s structure and resources will help to improve the customer experience and grow our reach into the market. We look forward to joining forces with the ASL team as we combine our range of services and expertise of the two companies.”

Cambridge-based ASL was founded in 1991 and has other sites in Great Yarmouth, Milton Keynes, Cannock, Nottingham, Bromsgrove, Central London, Kent, Essex and Surrey.
