The 1.37m-wide machine joins the VersaUV LEC-330, a 762mm-wide machine, extending the maximum size of materials that the machine can handle.

"The potential of the VersaUV is continually being discovered by users wanting to move into niche markets where special effects can be produced to exacting standards," said Roland DG UK technical director Brett Newman. "The generous size of this new machine will enable innovative displays to be created while improved cutting and creasing tools benefit the labelling, prototyping and packaging sectors."

New cutting and creasing features include support for thicker materials and perforating and a new ink recirculating unit is also claimed to lower running costs.

The VersaUV LEC range uses multiple layers of clear ink, in gloss and matte to reproduce textured effects, including Braille, via the VersaWorks RIP which includes a library of 72 different textures.

The LEC-540 costs €53,999 (£44,999).
