New-look Guardian package this weekend
Friday, September 24, 2021
Guardian News & Media is set to publish revamped supplements this weekend as part of cost-cutting measures announced last year.
The final issues of the Weekend and The Guide supplements were published with last Saturday’s Guardian, and included a retrospective of past content and cover features.
Weekend was printed at Walstead Bicester, while the A5-format The Guide was printed at YM Chantry.
A new consolidated Saturday publication will appear tomorrow, although further details on the format or printer were unavailable at the time of writing.
The Observer’s supplements had previously included Observer Magazine and Observer Food Monthly.
Guardian News & Media has chosen to make ABC circulation data for the titles private.
Parent Guardian Media Group actually filed better than expected results for the year to 28 March 2021. Sales were up by £2m at £225.5m, while the prior year’s operating loss of £16.2m was reversed, with the business posting a small operating profit of £1m. The group made a near-£200m gain on its investments.
Guardian Media Group’s sole shareholder is the Scott Trust, “whose sole purpose is to secure the financial and editorial independence of The Guardian in perpetuity”.
