Dover Corporation-owned industrial and packaging marking and coding equipment manufacturer Markem-Imaje has expanded its footprint and acquired rival firm Solaris Laser.

Formed in 1991, Warsaw, Poland-headquartered Solaris specialises in advanced fibre, ultraviolet and CO2 laser systems used for product marking and coding in industrial and packaging applications across a wide range of markets including beverage, cosmetics, food and pharma.

The deal completed yesterday (20 August) and terms were not disclosed.

Markem-Imaje said the deal would enhance its laser technology product offering and address growing customer demand for laser coding technologies.

“Our customers are increasingly adopting laser marking solutions for more of their product identification and packaging applications,” said Markem-Imaje CEO Vincent Vanderpoel.

“The addition of Solaris will enable Markem-Imaje and Solaris to offer the most innovative and comprehensive range of laser marking solutions for our customers’ product identification needs in both industrial and fast-moving consumer goods applications.”

Switzerland-headquartered Markem-Imaje is part of Dover Corporation’s Imaging & Identification segment within its Engineered Systems operating company. It supplies inkjet, thermal transfer, laser, and print and apply label systems.

US-headquartered Dover had sales of $7.1bn (£5.3bn) last year.

Its Digital Printing division, also part of Engineered Systems operating company, includes textile printing specialist MS Printing Solutions; JK Group, which incorporates ink suppliers J-Teck, Kiian and Sawgrass Industrial; and software firm Caldera.
