LG Davis eyes expansion on 60th birthday

LG Davis has outlined its growth plans to coincide with its 60th year in business this year.
The family run firm, which is based at circa-2,300sqm premises in Kings Heath, Birmingham and specialises in print, including large-format, branded merchandise, and office supplies, is looking to increase its turnover from just over £3m to £5m in the next three years.
It has already taken on new staff, including four apprentices who started at the end of last year, and said it is on track to meet its growth predictions for this year.
Managing director Liz Smith, who was a baby when her father Ron O’Donnell started the company in a small shop in Balsall Heath in 1962, said she was proud of how far the business had already come and was excited by its plans for the next few years.
“My dad dreamt of creating a business which offered a better way to procure office supplies and printing – a company that put the customer first and worked around them,” said Smith.
“60 years on and that vision still runs true in everything we do. Our business may have substantially grown but we still offer that same level of customer service you expect from a small family firm.
“The last few years have been tricky with the pandemic but we have seen ourselves come out stronger and are now very much looking forward to the future growth of the company.”
In the last few years LG Davis has acquired five businesses, including Positive Print last summer. It supports customers including National Express, Hayley Group, NHS Trusts, and UK Athletics, as well as local SMEs.
“One of the main reasons the business continues to thrive after six decades is our constant innovation and ability to adapt and change with the market. And we are keen to forge closer links with local companies as the business expands,” said Smith.
“For us Birmingham has always been our home and we are proud to support our local community. It is why we are always keen to support the next generation of workers as well as grow the workforce here in the city.”
The 46-staff business is looking at a year of celebrations to mark its 60th anniversary. While no big single event has been planned as yet, it plans to offer guided tours of its premises to enable customers and local businesses to find out more about the company and the printing industry.
