Sharp launches new light production colour printers

Sharp has launched two light production colour printers that it said are more user-friendly and offer improved productivity than their predecessors.

The MX-7090N and MX-8090N are a refresh of Sharp’s light production line, offering in-plant and commercial print operations improved productivity.

The new models have increased copy and print speeds of up to 80ppm and scan speeds of up to 200ipm to handle demanding office and print room environments.

Senior product manager Ben Lake said the models became available across Europe earlier this month and replaced the MX-6500 and MX-7500. He did not disclose pricing.

“We improved the print engines, including the speed of the devices, and there are new EFI print servers – an external Fiery or embedded within the machine.”

Other updates include improved colour consistency for longer-run jobs. The modular machine can be configured to feature a 13,500 sheet capacity for heavy users, Sharp said.

Lake said typical users are inplants that do not want to have to outsource longer run documents or banners.

“Another nice feature is edge-to-edge print, so trimming isn't required if you are printing materials such as 20-page booklets.

Other features include saddle stitching, curl correcting and a GBC SmartPunch system. A customisable user interface makes complex print jobs easier thanks to a 15.4-inch GUI touchscreen.

Other time-saving features include the ability to load paper or toner on the fly.

Users can also build up a collection of customised document, job and media profiles over time, which can then be retrieved to make repeat jobs quicker.

“Print jobs can come in at short notice, or a brief might change at the last minute, but it doesn’t mean businesses are willing to compromise on quality,” said Lake.

“Improvements to our light production series ensure the highest quality results no matter how big or small the job, while helping businesses to save time, cut costs and reduce waste.”
