KIP shows 800 series colour toner printers

US manufacturer KIP is presenting its 800 series of wide-format toner printers for the first time at Fespa.

The KIP 850 is a two-roll printer, the 860 a two-roll printer-scanner, the 870 a four-roll printer, and the 880 a four-roll printer-scanner. All the machines print on to A1 sheets or rolls of a similar width.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed but previous machines cost around $75,000 (£50,000).

The KIP machines work in the same way as an office photocopier. Images are transferred from a computer to an LED head which transfers dots on to a drum and then on to paper.

Sales director Sonny Odom said: “We are still the only company that makes the true LED toner machine. It has much better adhesion than inkjet, it’s good in the wet and in the sun and there’s no need to laminate. We print consistently at rated printer speed.”

He added: “It’s nice to be by ourselves in this market.”

The products are being previewed at Fespa in Hall 6, stand N205 and expected to be commercially available from the autumn.
