Duplo has launched the iSaddle Senshi, a new saddle stitching system that is said to offer strength and agility for a production environment.

The manufacturer said it wanted to honour its Japanese roots with the name of the machine, as Senshi is derived from the Japanese word for warrior.

Duplo said the system provides the quality of a saddle stitcher with the convenience of flat sheet, plus significantly reduced makeready times to boost productivity.

The device builds upon Duplo’s iSaddle 5.0 technology, enhancing automation and speed, and is suitable for publishing, marketing, or commercial printing.

Duplo said key features include a flat-to-finished book, heavy-duty stitching, significantly reduced makeready times, increased productivity, and end-to-end automation, plus the intelligence to handle the increasing number of short runs and complex jobs with ease.

The max booklet 1-up production speed is 5,050 A5 booklets per hour with up to 30 sheets, or 4,000 A4 booklets per hour with up to 30 sheets. The max booklet 2-up production speed – with A6 at 2-up – is up to 10,100 booklets per hour.

“At Duplo, we understand that winning in any battle requires a combination of strength, intelligence, and skill,” said Marine Kerivel-Brown, head of international marketing at Duplo International.

“With the iSaddle Senshi, we’ve created the perfect union between agility, accuracy, and automation, encased in a robust frame engineered for heavy-duty production.”

The iSaddle Senshi was launched last week and has been beta tested by a customer in Germany. It is commercially available immediately, as Duplo has stock, and demonstrations are available at Duplo UK’s headquarters in Addlestone, Surrey.

Pricing has not been disclosed for the device, which will be demonstrated at the upcoming Drupa show, which opens on 28 May.
