WRAP applauds government plan to halve landfill waste

The WRAP recycling body has welcomed a government pledge to half the amount of waste going into landfill in four years.

The plan was revealed in this week's launch of the Strategy for Sustainable Construction.

Chief executive Liz Goodwin, said: "It provides a clear direction for the industry, and we welcome confirmation of the target to halve construction waste to landfill by 2012.

"This is not only achievable but many organisations are already making progress and reporting extremely positive results."

But she insisted hitting targets could only happen with "co-ordinated" action that targeted "all stakeholders in the supply chain".
