Wipak to pump 6m into Welsh packaging site

A Finnish-owned packaging group is investing nearly 6m in expanding its Welsh factory.

Wipak, which specialises in printed film for the perishable food sector, is extending its factory by 1,566m to house a "unique state-of-the-art press" and ancillary finishing equipment.

The move will create 38 new jobs bringing headcount at the Welshpool, Powys plant to 90 and increase annual capacity from 25m m.

"This is a significant investment that highlights the company's commitment to the area and our workforce," said Wipak (UK) managing director Philip Wolstenholme.

Minister for Economic Development and Transport Andrew Davies said: "This is a further boost for Mid Wales and is a clear indication of the company's commitment to the area."
