Wincanton Print continues 4m spend with Polar buy

Wincanton Print has continued its 4m-plus spend over the last five years, upgrading its finishing department with a Polar 92X Plus guillotine.

In recent years, the Somerset company's investments have led to an expanded digital print division, as well as the addition of point-of-sale and wide format print divisions.

Wincanton Press moved one existing Polar 92 into the expanded departments, while the new cutter has been installed in its litho department.

According to production director Ian Gatfield, the new machine was placed in the litho department because of its improved productivity.

He said: "The technology on this latest Polar X Plus version is much better, not least the touchscreen and two air tables which we added to increase throughput.

"The knives are very easy to change with Optiknife, which has enabled us to train two or three more staff to handle this task."

Wincanton Print moved into digital in 2008 when it installed a Bizhub Pro c6500e
