PaperX.com has been officially launched amidst speculation that one of its pilot projects has attracted the support of Stora Enso.
Perhaps significantly, the web-based paper portals chief executive, Lars-ke Helgesson work for Stora for 10 years, the last six as chief executive officer.
"PaperX is the first pan-European company in this market," said Helgesson. "Weve had a half year head start and although well have competition, for the time being we see that as being locally based."
The company will initially offer an online single source for paper and board products although pulp grades will be added over the summer. There are also plans to add further revenue-generating areas to the site including news and some form on consultancy service.
PaperX.com will attempt to woe British paper merchants next month at a lavish bash at Londons Savoy hotel.
