Graeme Selby, who heads up the 12-strong Vertis Direct Marketing Services (VDMS) sales team, has joined from Polestar Direct where he was sales director.
The firm's four sites at Leicester, Croydon, London and Swindon will be represented as a single business to provide a more coherent service.
The move comes at a time when Vertis' UK direct mail production businesses are undergoing a review with a possible sale on the cards.
"It is a challenging time in the industry at the moment and Selby is a key strategic hire for our direct marketing arm," said VDMS managing director sales and marketing Richard Husband.
The firm's review of its European operations is ongoing and is expected to be concluded next month.
