Vale Press installs TH 56 Stahlfolder to handle pharmaceutical work

Commercial printer Vale Press has targeted more complicated pharmaceutical work after installing a TH 56 Stahlfolder from Heidelberg.

The Cotswolds-based company installed the machine after discovering that folding was its main bottleneck.

Its previous machine was taking half-an-hour to change over, but the Stahlfolder is capable of switching in "20-30 seconds".

While this ability will help the company in all jobs, it is complicated folding work that commercial director Tom Stowe is most excited about handling.

He said: "We do a lot of flyers and leaflets, but we get sent runs of 100,000 mini-folds, that is when a short makeready comes into its own. We want to go after more work like that to increase our volumes.

"Over the past couple of years our folding has been running to capacity, but now we can really go after new work, we are far
more competitive."

Vale Press employs around 15 staff and has a turnover of around £1m, although it is targeting double that over the next couple of years.
