Taopix upgrades photo gifts platform

Taopix has released an updated version of its eponymous photo e-commerce platform, which incorporates a new module that enables for further customisation of its user interface.

The platform, which is both desktop- and mobile-friendly, enables users to create personalised photo products.

The updated version, which incorporates the Desktop Designer UI Theming Module, will be available to all Taopix licensees and new users from December onwards, but is currently being trialled by seven Taopix licensees who are part of an early adopters programme.

It is available for no extra cost to firms with a Taopix support contract, which, at entry-level, costs around £2,350 a year. Buying the platform outright for the first time in December will cost £11,750.

The upgrade in the main is a design upgrade for desktop, which allows for customisation of the platform’s main display page. It had been in development for around three months before trials.

Taopix sales director Dianne Moralee said: “The product has been around since 2007 and there have been many changes with regards features but we haven’t really done a massive amount with the actual user interface itself.

“What we were hearing from customers is that they want a way to be able to customise the interface for their needs so they don’t have the same look and feel as others that have deployed the same software.

“Our platform is a white-label platform so the older version allows customers to customise the splash screen for example, but for the display we only previously allowed for small colour changes on the right-hand panel.”

The module allows for changes in item colour, background colour, lines, borders and tool icons.

It is the fourth upgrade to the platform this year, which matches 34-staff Taopix’s aim for quarterly upgrades. The first included a module for producing calendars on the mobile version, the second brought in Taopix’s new ‘image-led’ programme for storing photos on the cloud and the third brought in a new layout option for calendars to allow for more than one image per calendar page.

“We are constrained with what we can do with regards to Windows and Apple OS but I think we’ve really pushed it to the point now where it has been brought bang up-to-date in terms of look and feel,” added Moralee.

Newcastle-based Taopix turned over around £3m last year. It recently took on six new apprentices for an initial 12-month programme.
