"By distinguishing themselves in products, systems and services they try to pocket the largest possible share," claims the second edition of Piras The Future of European Printing. "While justifiable economically, this attitude is working against the movement of documents through the printing supply chain."
UK printers will continue to suffer from a lack of export opportunities while the country stays out of the single European currency, it adds. "Most printers in euro-member countries are better positioned to fix their future course."
However, it does highlight the opportunity for growth in Europe. While the Continents population is 50% more than the US, it consumes 26.5% less printed matter. "The potential for growth lies more in social change than in economic development," it adds.
The report costs 2,500, with a 5% discount for Pira members. Complementary sector studies on presses, paper and inks cost extra.
