Screen has introduced a new screening option which combines both the AM and FM processes.
Called Spekta, the module automatically switches between the two methods, such as FM on lines and text and AM on flat tints and smooth areas.
It also delivers a much higher screen ruling than the conventional process. "At 2,400dpi the equivalent in lpi is 350 as opposed to 175lpi with conventional," said Screen UK managing director Brian Filler.
Filler also claimed it was much easier to switch from conventional screening to Spekta than to full FM. "With FM you really had to apply yourself to the project. You had to ensure the absolute correct exposure on the plates as the dots were so fine," he said.
Selected users of Screen TaigaSPACE workflow have completed beta tests on Spekta and the feedback has been "fantastic", said Filler.
