Russell, who will be based in London, will report to chief executive Jukka Hrml.
"This was a position that Stora Enso had in mind to help strengthen the North American investor relations team," said Russell.
Vice president communications and investor relations Scott Deitz becomes a full-time investor relations officer, reporting to Russell.
The groups vice president of investor relations in Helsinki, Maija Harsu, will also report to Russell and executive vice president for corporate communications Kari Vainio.
