Scheme open to 18-30-year-olds

Printing Charity starts search for 2024’s Rising Stars

Almost 60% of the 2023 winners worked in the print industry

The Printing Charity has opened applications for its annual Rising Star Awards, which offer grants of up to £1,500 to help young people further their careers in the industry.

Printing Charity CEO Neil Lovell said the flagship programme offers a "fantastic opportunity" for the charity to support the sector in developing and celebrating its "exceptional rising stars".

"The range of training our 2023 winners applied for really highlights the diversity of roles in our ever-changing and innovative industry, and shows the potential for a fulfilling career within it for any young person, regardless of their chosen career pathway,” he said

The scheme, now in its 15th year, has helped hundreds of young people by gifting successful applicants grants that can be used to develop their career, whether it be to fund training courses or purchase equipment to support their learning.

Past winners have also spoken about the positive impact the Awards had on their development.

Gabby Solarek, from Eight Days A Week Print Solutions, one of the 2023 cohort of 34 winners, said it boosted her “confidence, visibility and profile”.

While Solopress’s Jake Ross, another 2023 winner, added: “I now feel armed with an arsenal of tools to sharpen my skills going forward. On top of the award itself, these courses will help build my profile, both now and in the future.”

The awards are open to any 18-30-year-olds working in the print, paper, publishing, and packaging sectors. Last year, almost two thirds of the winners worked in print.

While individuals themselves apply, the charity encourages potential applicants to strengthen their submissions by speaking to their line manager, mentor or HR team or to help identify skills gaps or personal development goals and what courses will best help to address these.

Applications close on 5 April 2024.
