Print techniques on display at Birmingham exhibition

A range of techniques and tools from the last century are on display at an art exhibition at Birmingham University, which opened last week.

Print Power: The Religious, the Social and the Body in Twentieth-century Works on Paper opened on 10 June 2010.

Works on display cover a range of printmaking techniques, including engraving, lithography and woodcut, and show the versatility of printmaking in the first half of the twentieth century.

Printmaking tools will also be on display, enabling visitors to gain an added insight into the printmaking processes of the time.

Curated by a team of postgraduates from the university, it features a body of work exploring issues such as identity and loss.

Work includes Bust of Jacqueline, 1958 by Picasso, Prophet, 1912 by Emil Nolde and Mother with Dead Child, 1903 by Kathe Kollwitz.

Print Power will be accompanied by a series of events. These will include a lunchtime gallery talk, tours and live guides. An open day is planned for Saturday 17 July, which will include a drop-in print workshop.
