Pressure on for magazine contracts

UK magazine printers are facing a tense period as six major publishers review their print contracts.

A number of contracts have already been put out to tender and are in the final stages of negotiations. By the end of Q1 2003, the next set of supplier contracts at NatMags, John Brown Citrus, Emap, the BBC, IPC and Hachette Filipacchi should all be finalised.

The significance of the Hachette Filipacchi contract has grown since the publisher acquired Attic Futura and added Elle and Red to its portfolio following the end of its joint venture with Emap.

Its a big opportunity or big stress, depending on your perspective, said one web print sales director.
