PressOn invests again in HP Latex

PressOn has taken on an HP Latex 3600 to help meet increasing demand for large-format graphics.

The 180sqm/hr 3.2m-wide machine, which was launched at Fespa 2017, was installed at the Chatham, Kent-based firm’s 930sqm premises in September. Supplied by reseller Papergraphics, it has joined an existing HP Latex 3500, which was installed in 2015.

The 3600 is 30% more productive than the 3500. Features on the six-channel machine include a special tiling mode, which offers full colour consistency for tiled jobs and reduced media wastage when changing media type.

The device can handle single rolls up to 300kg or two 200kg rolls and features enlarged 10-litre ink containers.

It also features an automated printhead maintenance routine as well as HP Service Centre, which analyses live data to predict technical issues and minimise downtime.

PressOn joint managing director Andy Wilson said the Latex 3600 has already enabled the company to maximise its profits with overnight unattended printing. He has also reported a smoother workflow and “a noticeable increase in customer satisfaction”.

“The 3500, which was upgraded from a 3000, was getting increasingly busy so we’ve added another one to help us out. They’re both running the same jobs overnight at the same time but there are a lot of little perks with the 3600,” he said.

“It’s got good backup from HP and this new generation of printers are remotely monitored by the team in Barcelona. So they can tell if something is playing up before we even know it is. You get a bit more preventative maintenance than you do with the older generation.”

He added: “We’ve secured some very sizable contracts recently on massive infrastructure projects across Britain and the addition of the new machine is enabling us to meet even tighter deadlines without compromising on our production quality.”

Established in 2000, PressOn has 25 staff and a turnover of around £3m. The business relocated from Rochester to its current Chatham premises in 2015, a week before its Latex 3500 was installed.
