Pira has launched the pre-press equivalent of a medical check up.
Digital Workflow HealthChecks are like medicals, said pre-press consultant Marcus Scott-Taggart. We investigate, identify symptoms, diagnose, and propose solutions, he said.
The four-stage service that costs from 1,700 to 3,400 includes interviews, data collection, analysis and final conclusions.
Pira says the service can cut waste, improve schedules, make better use of staff and facilities and improve quality and consistency.
City and commercial printer Burrups tested the service and said it helped it reinforce strengths and focus on specific actions.
Current upgrades or improvements were often ad hoc and not part of an overall strategy, said Scott-Taggart.
Todays firms are working with digital islands resulting in inefficiency, he said. File transfer, proofing and data delivery for CTP are unforgiving with unhealthy workflows.
This leads to duplication of effort, extended lead times and spoilage.
