Olympus returns to Nilpeter for third FA-4* flexo press

Olympus Print Group has bought its third Nilpeter FA-4* flexo press to increase its capacity and enable it to grab more market share in wine and high-end labels.

Additional to existing kit, the machine was installed towards the end of April and cost around 1m (£877,000). A boom in demand in the wine and personal care markets prompted the buy.

It is the third Nilpeter FA-4* installed in the past 18 months for the self-adhesive labels and large-format digital print specialist.

The company's expansion began three years ago when it moved to a large new factory in Pudsey outside of Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Owner Steve Cartwright said: “We've been a Nilpeter house since we started in the 1990s and the new kit gives us more flexibility, calms everything down and allows for expansion.”

His 85-staff company generates just under £10m sales and he hopes the new machinery will push it “north of £10m” in 12 to 18 months.

“The press is robust, the quality of print excellent, and it will stand the test of time. We can print, hot-foil and emboss and then do it again. It is flexible and will give customers what they want.”

Managing director Adrian Brown said adding new machinery would complement Olympus' combination flexo and inkjet digital presses and increase capabilities in wine and other beverages.

“The expansion and acquisition of three new presses was largely customer-driven; new work came our way, orders were up, and we saw more requests for high-end label features and embellishments.

“Since adding the three FA-4* presses we have doubled our capacities in foiling and embossing, and increased our screen printing capacity.

“The new presses offer technical compatibility, and the ease-of-use provides a soft learning curve for printers and new apprentices.”
