CUP will create a new production unit called Cambridge Digital for digital book production.
"This is a relationship we have been working on for over two years, and we see ourselves as a long-term partner for CUP," said Oc UK business unit direc-tor Simon Wheeler.
He hoped the partnership would set the agenda for other book publishing organisations to follow suit.
Books will be printed on Oces Demandstream 8090 system with print runs from 10 upwards. Integrated paper handling equipment is part of the investment.
"Our objective was to find a long-term partner who could provide a cost-effective book production system," said CUP's business director for book production, David Royal.
Oc has also announced a collaboration with Duplo, which will see the development of a joint product called the Oc Booklet System 4000, consisting of the Oc PRISMA+POD print server and the Duplo Bookletmaker DBMO-4000.
Oc will showcase its new scanning tool, Docsetter, an advanced tool for scanning and editing hardcopy documents.
CUP sells books in over 200 countries and has a worldwide turnover of 130m. It has been operating as a printer and publisher continuously since 1584.
Oc said production figures for the book market stood at 8bn per year worldwide, of which around 7% (560m) is suitable for short-run digital produc-tion.
